Week Thirteen – The Surrendered life
Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. - Matthew 16:24
Generally speaking, a follower of Jesus-Christ must surrender his/her life to Jesus. In fact, this is what we must do to even be able to be called his followers. The truth of the matter is that we all struggle with this issue of renouncing to ourselves and surrender. We can’t expect the Lord to use us if we come to Him full of ourselves, with our old nature, the self that produces all kind of evil. We must come and empty ourselves.
Although I was born into a Christian family and made a personal decision for Jesus-Christ when I was 17 years of age, I was shocked at how full of myself I was when the Holy Spirit showed me the things I needed to renounce. The issue of surrender is something we will face over and over again. At every season of our lives, we will need to surrender at a different level. Are you being called to surrender some elements of the ‘self’? I encourage you to be obedient, as scary and painful it may get.
Questions to discuss
What does it mean for you to totally surrender your life to Jesus? Why is it so much easier to see others who don’t surrender their lives to Jesus than to see our shortcomings?
Pray the Lord to help you to totally surrender your life to Him, that He may use you in this transforming revival process, for His glory.
